Farm Manager Job Description
The Farm Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the farm, ensuring that all activities are conducted efficiently and effectively. This role involves managing both crops and livestock, implementing best practices in animal husbandry and care, and supervising farm staff. The ideal candidate must possess a strong background in agriculture and management (this is not a position for someone with only management experience or only agriculture experience), with a focus on animal handling and care, as well as experience in maintaining gardens and growing various crops. The manager is expected to lead by example with field work, washing, packing and other hands on tasks alongside the team, encompassing a large portion of weekly hours.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Farm Operations Management
-Oversee and participate in the daily operations of the farm, including planting, cultivating, harvesting crops and livestock care.
-Manage livestock care, ensuring proper feeding, health checks, and overall animal welfare.
-Supervise farm staff, providing training and guidance to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
-Maintain equipment and tools used on the farm, ensuring they are in good working condition.
-Implement best practices for sustainable farming techniques and animal husbandry.
-Monitor crop growth and health, making adjustments to care as necessary.
-Maintain accurate records of farm activities, including planting schedules, livestock health records, and equipment maintenance logs.
2. Team Leadership
-Supervise, train, and schedule a team of 5-10 farm staff depending on season
-Delegate tasks effectively and provide ongoing feedback to optimize performance.
-Foster a positive and collaborative team environment. Managers are expected to lead by example, being out the fields and working alongside team members.
3. Farm Box Program
-Coordinate monthly subscription farm box assembly and distribution.
-Ensure accurate tracking of produce, packaging, and delivery logistics.
4. Sales and Partnerships
-Manage relationships with local restaurants and fulfill orders.
-Represent the farm at farmers markets, ensuring consistent product quality and excellent customer service.
5. Guest Services
-Oversee RV and tent camping operations, including site preparation and guest communication.
-Maintain cleanliness and functionality of guest facilities.
6. Administrative Duties
-Answer phone calls, texts and emails on the farm phone with fantastic customer service
-Monitor and track inventory, budgets, and key performance indicators.
-Implement and maintain record-keeping systems for crops, livestock, and sales.
-Collaborate with the farm owner on strategic planning and goal setting.
-Order materials needed to keep on track with planting, seeding, harvesting, washing, packing and maintenance
Qualifications:
-Proven experience in farm management, preferably with regenerative or sustainable agriculture.
-Strong leadership and communication skills.
-Proficiency in crop and livestock management.
-Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and adapt to changing priorities.
-Knowledge of sales, marketing, and guest services is a plus.
Compensation Package
$18-23 per hour starting depending on experience
10% off all farm goods or access to “family products” at no cost when available
Pay increases based on performance and experience
