Farmers Market Crew

Farmers Market Crew – Part time – Year Round – Long Term
Options for this to also be a harvest, wash and pack job as well on the Friday or Thursday prior to market depending on candidates availability – this can be discussed on an individual basis.

Job description: The Farmers Market Crew is responsible for attending our Saturday Farmers Market in either Bluffton or Port Royal. Farmers Market Crew reports directly to both the farm manager and the farm owner. We are happy to train the right person with the right attitude. The Farmers Market Crew must have reliable transportation and a vehicle large enough (SUV, minivan OR Truck) to have market tent, tables, coolers and market set up items. The ideal candidate would live nearby the farm to make loading and unloading quick and easy and to reduce drive time.

The Farmers Market Crew has the following qualities: strong people skills, very friendly and excited to be outside chatting with folks at a market, a desire to answer questions and explain and talk about the farm (sometimes over and over and over again in the same 3-4 hours span). This person should be interested in interacting with customers and not be someone who is just wanting to hang out on their cell phone as potential customers walk by. This person should be able to stand for extended periods of time. This person should also be able to use a POS system and track cash and credit card sales and be responsible with making change. This person should dress and present themselves with professionalism as they are the direct face of the farm when we are out at market. This person should have an eye for detail and be able to set up an appealing market booth and keep it stocked and tidy throughout the market. They should also be highly organized and be able to handle pre order pick ups and customers at the booth shopping at the same time. This person must be able to lift at least 50lbs and to be able to load and unload market set up materials and totes and coolers and bags for pre orders.

Who would thrive in this position? Someone that loves being outside and talking with people about meat and vegetables and our farm, no matter the elements… farmers markets happen rain or shine.

What are the hours like: Saturdays, year round. Farmers Market Crew reports to the farm around 645am to load up and be ready to leave for market at 7am, drives to the market, sets up, breaks down and returns to the farm and unloads. Depending on the market finish time, hours can vary from 1pm to 2pm. Everyone is responsible for tracking their own hours and submitting them, hours are however cross checked with cameras on the farm.
