Join us on Sunday, October 25th at 10am for a special class about Reptiles of the Lowcountry featuring local wildlife specialist, Bill Smith of Coastal Land and Wildlife.
This class is geared toward ages 6 and up but of course if you feel like your child can sit quietly through a discussion and take a fairly lengthy walk, any age is welcome. Bill will be bringing a variety of live animals to pet as well as a bunch of large photos of reptiles he doesn’t currently have with him to help teach us about the species we can find here in our area. We’ll discuss identification, characteristics, and more as we dive into why snakes are an important part of not only our farm’s ecosystem but the entire ecosystem of the Lowcountry.
After the discussion, we’ll take about a half mile walk through the woods and the kids will look at different places where we might be able to find snakes. We’ll also look for other animal tracks as well. During our forest walk, we’ll discuss why the forest is so important for the environment and for our farm and why we choose to farm the way we do in harmony with nature!
There will be plenty of room for social distancing and masks will NOT be required because we will be outside but anyone is welcomed to wear a mask. There will be a port-a-potty and sink accessible for bathroom and hand washing.
The class is $30 per child age walking and up. Parents or guardians are free but please limit adult attendance to help with social distancing. Space is limited and tickets are only available by pre-sale until October 23rd.
