BEEKEEPING 101 with Alec Bruns of Wild Light Honey

What you’ll need: water bottle, notebook, something to write with, snack and your curiosity
Target Age: 16 and older

Are you interested in becoming a backyard beekeeper or just curious about these fascinating creatures? If you’ve always wanted to peer into a beehive and witness the fascinating world of honey bees, this class is for you!

This workshop is approximately 4 hours long and geared for people who are interested in learning about bees, how they operate and how we as people and consumers, can be helpful to them. This class is also for those are interested in starting their own hives but not quite certain of how to go about it.

Part I: Basic honey bee biology, equipment needed and the history of beekeeping. There will be a presentation on the fundamentals and a time devoted for question and answer.

Part II: Inspect active beehives in our educational bee yard, identify different bee casts, parts of the hive and find the queen. There will be time devoted for question and answer.
